Mersing Harbour Centre

With the recent grand opening of the Mersing Harbour Centre building, the previously somewhat old-school town of Mersing has, certainly as far as its tourism-related servies goes, moved into the fast lane.

The new tourism portal is part of the wholesale upgrading of Mersing, a project initiated by the authorities in a move to leverage Mersing's auspicious location, not just as a launching platform to the various nearby paradise islands, but also as a bridge to its treasure trove of natural wealth in the form of its vast rainforests, located just further inland.

The spruce-up has already has been paying dividends on the ground, both for those dependent on the tourism industry and the ever-increasing visitors to this popular part of Malaysia.

Tioman Island, for instance, has seen its accommodations repertoire grow substantially in the past decade. More and more hospitality chains, ranging from budget to exclusive, are realizing the idyllic island's potential as a globally renowned tropical island destination, and have established a presence there.

As for the actual travelers that come here, i.e. the hotel guests and service customers that decided to spend their holiday in this neck of the woods, they too are reaping the benefits of the area's influx of investments and subsequent improvement in infrastructure.

To wit, whereas not so long ago, ferry tickets to Tioman could only be purchased as walk-ins, that is to say, whilst physically at the then still run-down Mersing ticket counters, nowadays, the ferry provides tickets online, on www.tiomanferry.com, to those who want to book their ferry seats to their Tioman village in advance.

The same move to online bookings was undertaken of course by most of the hotels and resorts in Tioman; these have been bookable online for some time, typically by means of the well-known bookings engines of aggregates Agoda and a Booking.com.

Mersing Harbour Centre also has an online presence, on www.mersingharbourcentre.com. The site mirrors the complex's brick and mortar version's services and, as such, has become an important tourism portal for countless of would-be visitors from around the world. Mersing Harbour Center offers a number of helpful facilities and amenities, such as a car park, food and beverage wing, children's playground and even a decent-sized retail section that provides a range of items, including souvenirs, apparel and holiday- related requirements like sunblock, panadol, mosquito lotion etc.

Clearly, Mersing Harbour Centre, and its online incarnation in particular, have propelled Mersing to the next level and the digital age, respectively. In the years to come doubtless a lot of tourists will be benefitting from the Malaysia government's foresight to allocate Mersing the resources it rightly deserved.

Mersing Harbour Centre FTW :)
