As a married Chinese Singapore woman and a mother of 2-year-old, I've always dreamt of providing my child with the best possible lifestyle. Now, while Singapore is home, the continuously rising costs and hectic pace of life have made my husband and I consider other options. In fact, we've decided to apply for the MM2H Visa. Yes, we've decided to move to JB. We came to the realization that our nearly fully paid-for condo in Singapore is a significant asset and by renting it out, we'll generate steady cash flow. In fact, we've calculated that the rental yield is enough to allow us to live quite comfortably in JB. I mean, the cost of living in Malaysia is so much lower that we'll have plenty of savings left over to enjoy life without financial stress. With MM2H, Malaysia My Second Home, we're not just moving to any city—we're moving to a place where our money will go much, much further. So we've gone ahead and purchased a landed property in JB, obviously something we'll never be able to afford in Singapore, and tbh, we can't wait to move in :) What's even better is that MM2H allows us to remit all our funds from Singapore tax-free. This means that we're not losing out on any of our rental earnings to taxes once it arrives in our JB bank account. Clearly, this is a huge benefit, one that makes MM2H far more attractive than most other Golden Visa options we came across during our research. Well, we've always wanted to live like expats and now we can. But the best part is that we'll be just a short drive away from Singapore, especially with the RTS coming up in a shot while. In all honesty, it feels like we're having our cake and eating our cake. MM2H really is the opportunity of a generation. In a nutshell, it's an option whether you want to live generously or live watching your expenses every day. In Singapore, you can live ok in an HDB, taking public transport, sure. But in JB, you're making the same Sing Dollar work much harder for you. And since you only live once, we decided to go for it. Plenty to Offer The lifestyle perks of living in Malaysia are also significant. From the great makan to the kind people, Malaysia has a lot to offer. Our child will attend a good school in JB, which will provide an excellent international education at lower cost than the international schools in Singapore. Plus, the multicultural school environment will help our child grow up with a broader perspective on life, very important in the world we live in today. Will there be a few bumps along the way? Sure. Even with all the overlap in culture, language and food between Singapore and Malaysia, we still half-expect to run into a problem now and then. Maybe the RTS never makes it to completion. Maybe JB isn't quite as safe as Singapore. Whatever the issue may be, if we think it's best to go back, we always have that option. After all, we still have our home in Singapore. Value for Money But as far as my husband and I are concerned, MM2H is the perfect solution for our family. We get plenty of financial benefits, a better quality of life and the opportunity to live our dream of living like expats, all without moving too far from our homeland. We're really looking forward to this new chapter in our lives and really can't wait to embrace all the wonderful things that living in JB has to offer.
